Polydentia is expanding its line of anterior matrices with the introduction of Unica Proximal

Published on

Direct restorations in the anterior region have become a reliable alternative with a good long-term prognosis, thanks to the composite materials available today, which are capable of mimicking the aesthetics and function of natural teeth.1

This minimally invasive approach aims to achieve dental symmetry and improve aesthetics by correcting irregular tooth shape and alignment, as well as discoloration. It is reversible, repairable, cost-effective, and time-saving.2

It is important that direct restorations have correct anatomical contours and interproximal contacts.

Due to their simplicity and versatility, anatomical matrix systems and the injectable impression technique are the most commonly used methods for reshaping the approximal surfaces of anterior teeth.2

There are numerous matrix systems available for the anterior region, but most can be categorized as either flexible or rigid. Flexible matrices include the popular Mylar strips and soft splint templates, which can pose a challenge because they are unable to contour large areas, resulting in irregular contours and contacts. Rigid matrices include putty indices and precontoured matrices for the posterior region; both are viable options in certain situations, but in most cases, matrices for the posterior region are cumbersome and difficult to handle when multiple surfaces need to be restored.3

Developed in collaboration with StyleItaliano, the Unica Proximal offers improved control for anterior restorations. This new anterior matrix from Polydentia eliminates the need to cut or modify existing posterior matrices and features a design that ensures easy and secure adaptation and fit in the anterior region, while also eliminating the unnecessary labial, palatal, and incisal extensions found in conventional matrices.

Its universal shape and contour for upper and lower mesial and distal teeth significantly simplifies and speeds up anterior restorations.

Unica Proximal stainless steel matrices are 0.03 mm thick and are available in two shapes (Standard and Deep), which conform to the labial, palatal, and proximal contours of the anterior teeth.

Unica Proximal matrices are particularly suitable for anterior restorations in the proximal area (Class III and IV, peg-shaped lateral incisors, diastema closure, partial and full veneers).

The cervical labio-palatal arch, which is easy to position, is designed to secure the matrix subgingivally between the papilla and the tooth in order to improve the matrix's stability after placement. A wedge may be used to secure the matrix, but it is not strictly necessary.

The die was designed to fit the anterior teeth perfectly and to provide better visibility and access to the surgical site than other solutions, such as dies used in the posterior region.

Advantages:

- Faithful reproduction of the labial, palatal, and approximal contours

- provides an unobstructed view of and access to the surgical site, even when multiple matrices are used simultaneously

- Self-stabilizing: Once inserted, the matrix remains stable and secure throughout the entire procedure; a wedge can be used if necessary

- Longer cervical extensions than those found in posterior cutting dies, for easy restoration of the cervical portion of the proximal contour

- Available in two sizes (Standard and Deep) to ensure optimal adaptation to different incisor morphologies

The two universal shapes of Unica Proximal cover all clinical situations: Unica Proximal for standard cases and Unica Proximal Deep for periodontal applications with a flat papilla.

The thickness of the die (0.03 mm) offers an optimal combination of formability (polishing) and rigidity.

With the introduction of Unica Proximal, clinicians can now choose from an expanded range of matrices that covers all anterior tooth restoration scenarios.

Unica and Unica Minideep matrices can prove to be very useful when dealing with challenging cases that require restoration in the cervical and approximal areas (full veneering).

Unica Proximal is the ideal matrix for restoring only the interproximal margins without involving the cervical area when unobstructed access and a clear view are essential for a successful procedure, even when working mesially and distally at the same time.
