Laser Technology at Dentaurum – 30 Years of Progress
Published on
Dentaurum was not only the first company in the world to introduce laser technology on a broad scale in the dental technology sector, but has also established itself as the market leader through an extremely sophisticated range of equipment, above-average service, and extensive consulting expertise. In the IDS year 2025, the medical device manufacturer boasts an impressive 30 years of experience in the field of laser technology.
The laser has become an unbeatably useful tool for joining materials in both dental technology and orthodontics. It allows for the creation of completely biocompatible bonds without the use of solder. Its cost-effectiveness stems from the enormous time savings it provides.
A Successful Market Entry
Thirty years ago, Dentaurum successfully entered the field of laser technology. The advantage of dental laser technology, as opposed to the soldering technique that had been primarily used up to that point, lay in the fusion of materials of the same type. While soldering always requires the use of a less noble alloy as solder, dental welding joins metals and alloys of the same type. The result is stronger bonds that exhibit increased corrosion resistance. This is a decisive advantage, particularly for pure titanium, but also for all other dental alloys.
The first laser, which Dentaurum marketed under the name DL 2000, was unveiled to interested industry professionals at the dentechnica trade show in Nuremberg in 1993. Its ease of use, comfortable seating position, and well-thought-out, elegant design were additional factors that contributed to the DL 2000’s successful market launch.
Continuous improvement for high customer satisfaction
The successor models—the DL 2002, DL 2002 SF/SFS Desktop, and DL 3000—also enjoyed great popularity. In 2004, the first generation of the Desktop Compact Laser was launched. With its compact size and yet powerful performance, this laser was already an important part of Dentaurum’s product portfolio at that time and remains so today.
This benchtop device, which covers all areas of dental technology and orthodontic applications—from the finest welds to reliable joining—recently received another technical update. Precise power control makes the work significantly easier. Until now, such compact dimensions were not possible for lasers in this power range. Thanks to its ergonomic design (large working chamber with a tilting laser axis), the laser enables fatigue-free work and guarantees easy operation and a clear overview via the touchscreen.
The device features a high power reserve, a high-quality microscope with a wide field of view, an integrated exhaust system, and a cooling air nozzle. The integrated pulse shaping function includes 4 preset pulse shapes. The wide range of pulse parameter settings can be easily adjusted using joysticks. The system also includes two shielding gas nozzles: one flexible and one fixed with a tilting mechanism.
The Laser Welder SL10 from Siro Lasertec adds another product to the current laser portfolio at an attractive entry-level price. The welding performance of the Laser Welder SL10 is optimized for dental applications and is particularly well-suited for orthodontics. This makes the device ideal for smaller dental labs and orthodontic practices as well. A color camera transmits the welding process directly to the display.
At IDS, Dr. Hector Alvarez Lorenzo will give a presentation on Thursday and Saturday at the Dentaurum booth (D010/E019) in Hall 10.1 on laser welding in prosthodontics and orthodontics. Those interested can find more details at www.dentaurum.de/lp/deu/ids-2025.aspx
Users can look forward to seeing how laser technology will continue to evolve and anticipate further milestones in the coming years.
